The Spanish order book grew by almost 40% up until March
At the end of the first quarter of 2007 the order book of Spanish small and medium-sized shipbuilders stood at 129 orders for vessels, totalling 783.272 CGT, data which makes it possible to forecast a continued growth in activity in the sector in the medium term, as reported yesterday by Pymar. The “bulging” order book of the shipbuilders which form a part of Pymar contains vessels of all types, from a large number of tugs and support vessels, container ships and chemical transportation vessels and oil tankers, as well as auxiliary off-shore support vessels (deep-sea work in relation with oil platforms) and passenger ferries.
It is to be underlined that of the 129 ships ordered only three are fishing vessels. In comparison with the same period for 2006, in which the order book was made up of 93 vessels with a CGT of 657,286, in the same period for 2007 it rose by 38.70% insofar as number of vessels was concerned and by 19.17% with regard to CGT.
Among the most relevant data regarding Spanish small and medium-sized shipbuilders for the first quarter of 2007, we would underline the beginning of the construction of 27 new ships (94,442 CGT), of which 23 are tugs and the rest support vessels; and the keel laying of 11 vessels (76,878 CGT).
In this same period, 8 vessels were launched (26,970 CGT) and another 12 were delivered (51,949 CGT) (11 in the same period of 2006).
