Armón Shipyard expands its order book with new deliveries and strengthens its technological profile

The group adds to its international workload with the delivery of the Italian hybrid vessel “Ettore Morace”, the last in a series of nine high-speed monohulls built in Burela.

Armón Shipyard is consolidating its peak level of industrial activity in Vigo and across Galicia, with an increasingly diversified order book and a delivery pace that strengthens its position in high value-added segments. In addition to the dozen contracts currently underway—ranging from newbuilds to major repairs at its Vigo facilities—the group has now completed, on schedule, the delivery of the high-speed hybrid monohull “Ettore Morace” (IMO 9979905), already handed over at the Port of Vigo under the Italian flag.

This new vessel marks another milestone for the shipbuilding group, not only due to its advanced technological features, but also because it concludes a particularly significant series for the Burela (Lugo) shipyard. The “Ettore Morace” is the last of nine high-speed hybrid monohulls built by Armón for the Italian company Liberty Lines, considered the largest fast ferry operator in Europe. The series began with the “Vittorio Morace”, delivered in July 2024, and has enabled the Galician builder to strengthen its presence in a niche where innovation, energy efficiency, and passenger maritime transport converge.

The delivery of this ninth unit confirms Armón’s ability to meet deadlines in demanding serial production programs with a strong technical component. At a time when the energy transition and fleet renewal have become key drivers of the European shipbuilding industry, projects of this kind place the group in a particularly strong position to compete in the fast vessel market with hybrid solutions.

The vessel’s name also carries notable symbolic significance. By naming the ship “Ettore Morace”, Liberty Lines pays tribute to a prominent figure in Italian maritime law. Ettore Morace (1912–1988) is regarded as the first lawyer specialized in Maritime and Transport Law in Italy. He graduated in Law from the University of Naples in 1935, opened his practice in 1938, and within a few years became one of the most recognized professionals in this field in the country.

The addition of this delivery to Armón’s current activity reinforces the broader outlook for the group in 2026: a company capable of working simultaneously on vessels for fishing, defense, oceanographic research, passenger transport, offshore support, and environmentally driven fleet renewal. The diversification of its order book, together with the expansion of its industrial capacity in Vigo following the integration of the former Barreras shipyard assets, is enabling the Galician builder to gain ground in international markets with increasingly specialized projects.

In this sense, the “Ettore Morace” is not just another delivery. It also represents the culmination of a successful serial program and confirms that Armón can combine workload volume with on-time delivery and technological specialization—an especially valuable asset at a time when the market is seeking shipyards capable of responding quickly, reliably, and with solutions tailored to new efficiency and sustainability requirements.
