Moaña-based shipyard Aister strengthens the fight against drug trafficking by delivering a new high-speed patrol boat

The Civil Guard has just taken delivery of the sixth patrol boat built at the Moaña shipyard, named Río Antas

Aister is consolidating its position in Spain as a leading company in aluminium shipbuilding for security and defence missions. The Civil Guard has just taken delivery of the sixth patrol boat built at the Moaña shipyard, named Río Antas. The vessel will be assigned to surveillance, maritime control, and anti-drug-trafficking interception tasks for the Maritime Service Headquarters.

The order once again corresponds to the HS60 model. The interceptor can exceed 60 knots (about 111 kilometres per hour) thanks to its waterjet propulsion. This is a strategic requirement for the fight against drug trafficking, “especially in high-risk areas,” the shipbuilder notes. It is also designed to provide its crew with “advanced manoeuvrability and dynamic performance in tactical operations,” they add.

The vessel’s hull is made of high-strength aluminium, a material in which Aister has specialized and which distinguishes the shipyard within the naval industry. It is also designed to perform tight turns and precise control, “essential for pursuit scenarios,” they explain. The craft is 18 meters long and has space for four crew members. It features ergonomic, shock-absorbing seats and includes both an interior and exterior control station, offering 360-degree visibility.
