Freire begins construction of a vessel for Navy divers

The vessel will be delivered in November 2026

Freire Shipyard yesterday laid the keel of the new diver support vessel (NC 739) for Spanish Navy, which marks the beginning of its collaboration with the Ministry of Defence, as Mr. Marcos and Mr. Guillermo Freire emphasized. The shipyard's managing directors reiterated that the vessel's delivery date is scheduled for November 2026.

“The design and construction of the Diver Support Vessel by the Freire Shipyard represents an excellent opportunity to further collaboration with private shipyards and to reaffirm the Navy’s commitment to developing a strong national industrial and technological base,” said Rear Admiral Francisco Antón Brage, Deputy Director of Engineering at the Logistics Support Headquarters (JAL) and the Directorate of Naval Engineering and Construction (DIC).

The vessel will be a specialised platform designed to support the Military Diving School in training across all diving disciplines. To this end, the new unit will be fitted with state-of-the-art systems, including DP-2 dynamic positioning, a hyperbaric chamber, and a wet bell.
