Navantia begins definition phase for the new Intelligence Ship for the Navy
Spanish Council of Ministers has approved the launch of the definition phase for the Intelligence Ship (BAM-AGI), which will replace the current Alerta (A-111) and provide the Navy with advanced capabilities in electronic warfare, cyber defence, and intelligence gathering in maritime environments
Navantia will launch the definition phase of the future Navy Intelligence Ship (BAM-AGI), following approval from the Council of Ministers. The new vessel will replace the Alerta (A-111), which is approaching the end of its operational life, and is designed to undertake intelligence-gathering missions and electronic warfare operations within the maritime domain.
The definition phase involves carrying out engineering studies to define the naval platform, including its design and operational capabilities. The vessel will form part of the Industrial and Technological Plan for Security and Defence, equipping the Navy with advanced tools for signal interception, cyber defence, and naval electronic operations.
The intelligence system of the new vessel is being developed as part of the Santiago Programme which seeks to modernise the equipment used by the three-armed forces to collect and analyse data from signals and emissions associated with potential threats.
The Execution Order for this phase has an estimated value of €14 million and an expected duration of eleven months, during which the technical and operational parameters will be defined, enabling the subsequent stages of construction and deployment to commence.
With this project, Spain is strengthening its maritime surveillance and defence capabilities by incorporating state-of-the-art technologies that enhance the operational safety and efficiency of the Navy in strategic environments.
