Navantia to modernize two Thai Navy patrol boats

The contract, the second this year in the Asian country, strengthens its market presence
Spanish company Navantia has signed a new contract with the Thai Navy to modernize two Pattani-class offshore patrol vessels with obsolete systems. This follows the contract awarded last April to refurbish an amphibious transport vessel.
Navantia will carry out the engineering, supply, and integration of a new combat system, the core of which is the command-and-control system developed by Navantia Systems, the Catiz, the Spanish company explained in a statement, without detailing the financial figures for the agreement.
The company, which is part of SEPI, did specify, in response to questions from La Voz, that the work will be carried out in Thailand, with personnel from its systems department traveling from Spain, although the contingent will not include employees from the Ferrol shipyard.
During the project, the company will also integrate advanced systems from other manufacturers, in addition to providing lifecycle support documentation and ensuring training in system operation and maintenance
This is Navantia's second contract with the Thai Navy this year, an agreement that "strengthens the company's position in Southeast Asia."
Navantia was also the builder of the helicopter carrier HTMS Chakri Naruebet, the flagship of the Thai fleet, which was built in Ferrol.
According to Navantia, the order demonstrates "the company's excellence in naval defence systems, modernization projects, and high-value-added services." It also "reaffirms its commitment to offering cutting-edge solutions and supporting its customers' strategic needs."
At the end of 2024, the company, which has shipyards in Cádiz, Ferrol, and Cartagena, had an order book of 8.164 billion euros, 90% of which corresponded to defence contracts.
