MS Renaissance, Vigo’s crown jewel in naval luxury, shortlisted for Yacht of the Year

This mega yacht, built by Freire Shipyard, has been nominated for the 2025 World Superyacht Awards

The largest yacht ever built in Spain, and arguably the most luxurious vessel to emerge from Vigo’s shipyards, could soon be crowned best in class. Renaissance, constructed by Freire Shipyard, has been nominated for the 2025 World Superyacht Awards in the category of “Displacement Motor Yachts – 1.500 GT and above”, boasting an impressive 112 metre length and 7.200 GT of gross tonnage.

The announcement was made by the shipyard itself, which is celebrating its 130th anniversary this year. “We are thrilled to share that Renaissance has been nominated for the 2025 World Superyacht Awards”, stated Freire Shipyard.

Renaissance is considered one of the greatest milestones of the Spanish shipbuilding industry. Completed in 2023, the yacht represents Galicia’s most ambitious foray into luxury shipbuilding. It is the most valuable vessel ever built in Spain within its category, even surpassing Project Incognita, also under construction at Freire’s shipyard, which currently holds second place.

The project involved over 600 workers within a period of four years and it was conceived for chartering for a staggering rate of €3 and €3,5 million per week. With capacity for 36 guests across six decks and 19 cabins, both its interior and exterior were designed by UK-based Bannenberg & Rowell Design, in collaboration with Norwegian naval engineering firm Marin Teknikk.
According to the shipyard, the winners will be announced between the 2nd and 3rd of May at a gala in Venice, hosted by the specialised magazine BOAT International.

Competing alongside Renaissance in the same category are Ulysses (102,6 metres, by Feadship), Kismet (122 metres, by Lürssen), and -the smallest of the four- Platinum (78 metres, by Admiral).
