Damen Unveils Shrimp Trawler 2607: Up to 25% Fuel Savings in the Subtropical Shrimp Trawlers New Generation

The Dutch shipyard highlights it is a "simple, uncomplicated platform, easy to operate and with minimal maintenance requirements."

Dutch shipyard Damen has successfully completed sea trials for the first unit of its new freezer trawler model designed for shrimp fishing, "Damen Shrimp Trawler 2607," intended "for the next generation of shrimp fishing in (sub)tropical areas." The trials took place at Hamriya port in the UAE. The shipyard emphasizes this is a "simple, uncomplicated platform, easy to operate and with minimal maintenance requirements." The Shrimp Trawler 2607 stands out for its "extremely low" fuel consumption, which translates into lower fuel costs and reduced emissions. The shipyard notes it began developing this new series "in response to the market's growing interest in highly fuel-efficient vessels." The 2607 model is distinguished by a larger propeller diameter and a high-efficiency nozzle, combined with a balanced rudder and a streamlined keel design to minimize fuel consumption.

The result, according to Damen Maaskant's Sales Manager, Pieter Louwe van Slooten, is a significant reduction in fuel consumption of between 20% and 25%. "This achievement is the result of the great effort and commitment of the team behind the vessel, who can rightly be proud of a job well done," he states. The shipyard also highlights the progress made in emissions reduction.

However, the vessel’s efficient profile extends beyond its low fuel consumption. The Shrimp Trawler's design is "deliberately simple, ensuring great ease of use, as well as reliability and minimal maintenance requirements," Damen notes. Despite its necessary simplicity, the vessel features state-of-the-art freezing and storage facilities to ensure high-quality shrimp catches.

The trawler also incorporates other innovations, such as relocating the engine room to the rear of the hold, shortening the propulsion line. The fish hold is now located beneath the deckhouse, improving balance under various loading conditions. Processing and freezing of shrimp are carried out at the rear of the deckhouse, above the hold entry, optimizing logistics compared to previous vessels, where the plate freezer was located at the rear of the working deck.
