A "state-of-the-art" trawler construction for Canada begins at the Freire shipyard in Vigo
Saputi II will be 79 m-long and will incorporate advanced technology on board for the treatment of fish
Vigo’s shipyard Freire Shipyard has celebrated this afternoon the laying of the keel of a new "state-of-the-art" trawler for Qikiqtaaluk Corporation (QC) company from Canada, they detail. The milestone means that the shipyard is starting the construction of a 79-metre-long vessel increasing their experience in Fishing vessels construction.
The new freezer will be dedicated to the iconic species capture on the North Atlantic and the Arctic, such as halibut or Nordic shrimp, and the hull will be adapted to the minimum temperatures of the ocean in this region of the planet. Shipyard representatives participated yesterday in the symbolic act of laying the keel accompanied by the directors of the shipyard, Guillermo and Marcos Freire.
Vigo’s company says the trawler will be "state-of-the-art", in line with the high-tech orders recently delivered by the Beiramar shipyard, such as the research vessel Falkor (Too) or the David Packard, which is imminent. On the same slipways they are shaping the new Greenpeace flagship, which aims to be a revolution in terms of its propulsion methods, by using innovative and much less polluting systems.
The construction that has just started will be named Saputi II and will replace the current Saputi of the Canadian Qikiqtaaluk Corporation, which has been sailing since 1987. With this order, the shipyard from Vigo will have delivered ten fishing vessels throughout this decade. It is foreseeing the new freezer for Canada will sail the seas in 2026.
