Maritime industry in Canary Islands is "ready" for floating offshore wind establisment: aiming to capture 60% of investments
Canary Islands Maritime Cluster (CMC) joined Wind Europe meeting in Bilbao
Canary Islands maritime industry is “ready” to develop the start-up of the first floating offshore wind farming on the islands. This is the message the Canary Islands Maritime Cluster Manager (CMC), Elba Bueno Cabrera, gave during her speech in one of the meetings hold in Bilbao during Wind Europe 2024.
"Canary Islands are the fifth Spanish region heading port activities, we are small islands with large ports. But we are also the fifth Spanish community with the greatest weight in shipbuilding and repairing, an unprecedented success if we consider that we do not build ships, we only we do repair and maintenance," said Ms Bueno.
The manager of the Canary Cluster highlighted the leadership of the islands in this sector is also supported by the local companies experience in the challenge of getting the pulse of Oil and Gas sector. "We have our value and supply chain energized and leading this industrialization. We are not willing to lose the opportunity of a critical investment for our economic diversification," he said, highlighting the industrial sector of the islands aiming to be co-partner of the 60% of the activity generated, boosting economic and social benefits for the local community.
Elba Bueno participated in Opportunities in the Spanish offshore wind market session and the capabilities in the floating offshore wind sector state industry, "Floating wind value chain in Spain: the key to the Iberian market" organized by the Energy Cluster Association (ACE), in collaboration with the Wind Business Association (AEE).
