Preliminary agreement of the European Corvette (MMPC) consortium signed

The objective of the proposal is to maximase syneries and collaboration among European shipbuilding industrials.
In July 2022, the European Commission selected the proposal submitted by the consortium led by Naviris together with Fincantieri, Naval Group and Navantia for the European Defense Fund (EDF) call for the Modular and Multirole Patrol Corvette (MMPC) program. Following this decision, the four companies CEOs have signed a preliminary consortium agreement, the objective of which is to lay the foundations for the execution of the call.
The EPC will be an intelligent, innovative, sustainable, interoperable and flexible vessel, designed to fulfil a wide range of future missions in a continuously evolving global context. Based on innovative and disruptive technologies, this program will strongly contribute to European sovereignty in the naval field, strengthening European industry, increasing cooperation, efficiency and reducing duplication in defence spending.
The clear objective of the proposal is to maximise synergies and collaboration among European shipbuilding industrials. By developing together, a new ship, the EPC, they aim to ensure a European sovereignty in the second rank warship.
This has been made possible thanks to the participation of:
- 4 countries in EPC PESCO project (Italy, France, Spain and Greece)
- 6 countries involved in the co-founding (Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Denmark and Norway)
- 3 European Shipbuilding Industrials (Fincantieri, Naval Group and Navantia) with Naviris in charge of the coordination
- 40 companies for maritime systems and equipment
The European Corvette (MMPC) is an innovative military ship program being developed collaboratively by various Navies and Member States of the European Union, under the banner of the PESCO* project (PESCO approval in 2019). Four Navies (Italy, France, Spain and Greece) have officially joined the project to jointly define the requirements for a second-rank surface combat ship of about 110 meters in length and 3,000 tons, capable of replacing several ship classes, from patrol boats to light frigates. In addition, Norway and Denmark are supporting the project by involving their national industry."
The EPC project has the strong support of the European Commission and the participating Member States. The European Defense Fund opened a call named MMPC -Modular and Multirole Patrol Corvette- which Naviris coordinated the preparation of a proposal gathering the experience of a European consortium (40 companies from 12 countries) that was presented in December 2021. This proposal has been selected in July 2022 and has funding for an initial two-year design phase, the development of 'technological bricks' and the definition of work methodologies, rules and common standards.
With its commitment to excellence, the program aims to grow thanks to the experience of specialized European companies, aligned with the strategy of the European Commission.
