Iberdrola considers Galicia for a large marine wind farm of 1,000 million

The project, candidate for the Next Generation, adds 300 MW with the participation of 66 industrial companies | The company aims to raise 2,000 MW in floating "offshore"

You can go around the world from jump to jump between Iberdrola’s offshore wind projects. The company has parks in operation or with advanced procedures in British and German waters, France and the coasts of Virginia and Massachussetts, in the USA; has just entered the Swedish market, Japan and Poland; and will bid together with the French giant Total in Denmark’s new auction to build the 1,000 megawatt (MW) Thor wind turbine complex. In many of these areas, the sector is already years ahead, "the history of undisputed European technological and industrial leadership", according to the EU, which is strongly grasping the enormous potential of offshore technology to meet its goal of decarbonisation of the economy by 2050.

Why did Spain, a territory historically pioneered in the use of wind as an energy source, go unnoticed in the plans of all companies that bet on offshore wind? The presence is minimal, few cases of experimental initiatives, because in the areas with better resource the great depth makes it impossible to anchor the mills to the bottom. With floating platforms that ceases to be an obstacle and Iberdrola has set out to promote the first park on an industrial scale.
