Spanish technology for two new ro-ro LNG icebreakers for Wallenius
Ingeteam will supply the hybrid electric propulsion systems of both vessels.
Spanish technology company Ingeteam will be in charge of the development, manufacturing, commissioning and sea testing project of hybrid electric propulsion systems for two new ro-ro ships powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the Swedish shipping company Wallenius SOL.
Both ships will have 242 m-Length, capacity for 5,800 linear cargo meters, a service speed of 20 knots and will be equipped with two Type C LNG tanks. Built in accordance with Finnish and Swedish class 1A Super standards for ice navigation, they will be the largest ships in their category.
According to Ingeteam, during their port calls, ships will obtain their energy from a ground electrical connection or from LNG engines. This system, developed by the Spanish company, is prepared to incorporate a set of batteries in future and an energy management system. This will improve their energy efficiency, in addition to optimizing the operation of auxiliary engines, reducing service hours and therefore their cost and maintenance.
