Polymade shipyard, 50 artisanal fishing boats on their order book
The Rías Baixas (Galicia) shipyards enjoy a great work loading thank you to fishing.
Although big vessels fill the headlines, inshore fishing is also giving good contracts to smaller yards. In this case Astilleros Polymade, placed in Portonovo, have ordered 50 boats, all of them of 12 meters or less. The family company was born in 1978, they have 15 workers and had taken off from two years ago. “90% of our customers are professionals and we build boats both with axis and outboard motors”, explains Eugenio Martínez, the company representative.
Together with Ingemar engineering (also in charge of the boats Nueva Pescanova is now building in Armón), Polymade works “always with polyester” and they got to export some units to Norway and Cape Verde. “We now build boats to the Mediterranean and, indeed, for the North-West Cantabric. We also have interested shipowners in the UK”, comments Mr Martínez, highlighting “Paco and Carmen work, the shipyard’s founders. After the facilities enlargement and investing in new moulds, Polymade is expecting to take part on the Galician inshore renovation fleet.
