The contract with Australia opens the door to Navantia to build a third ship for the Navy

The signing of the contract which will enable Navantia to build two logistics ships for Australia in the estuary of Ferrol, opens the door to a third ship.

The company president, Jose Manuel Revuelta said in Santiago yesterday, that the agreement initialed last Thursday includes "the option to build a third" ship, and in this "case" he advanced, "it will be built in the same conditions as the first two vessels ".

In the meantime, the Galician shipyards of the company will begin working with the two ships "based" on ELBAC Cantabria, although with modifications at the request of the Australian Government. One of them, Mr. Daniel Blanco, director of the Navantia AOR program for Australia pointed out, that the incorporation of their environmental protection regulations and the Great Barrier will mean to "adapt" equipment and include new ones. With these nuances, work will begin on July 1, 2017 and will last until May 2020.
