The industry from Vigo drives the marine energy production

The platform in construction in Astilleros Cardama

The shipyard Cardama manufactures the first wave platform of Spain designed by the company Magallanes. The assembly will begin on Monday

The industry from Vigo marks a historical milestone with the first wave platform of floating technology make, built in Spain. The company from Redondela Magallanes Renovables designs the prototype and the shipyard Cardama is the responsible for the construction of the platform which aim is to generate energy from the current tides. It is 42 meters long, 350 tones and 2 MW.
The Project is in its last step, the assembly will begin on Monday, and they will make the sea test shortly.
The initiative Magallanes was born in 2007 in Redondela with the challenge of developing a technology able to extract energy from current tides everywhere. After an investigation and development stage, in 2014 the first model was built and proved successfully in the European Marine Energy Center (EMEC) in Scotland.
The project is to achieve the most efficient and profitable method to obtain energy from tides with a simple and strong installation, able to produce in any area of the world with the most simple maintenance system.
