Gondán launches its first uncrewed vessel: a 24-meter USV for remote operations

The Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) was commissioned by Norwegian companies DeepOcean, Solstad and Østensjø Rederi.

Gondán Shipbuilders has celebrated the launch of its first uncrewed vessel. The event took place in their facilities in Figueres, Castropol. This Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) was built for USV A/S, a Norwegian company formed by three leading companies in the offshore sector: DeepOcean, Solstad and Østensjø Rederi.

Designed by Salt Ship Design, the vessel measures 24 meters long and 7,5 meters wide and it features a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system with 500 kWh batteries. The vessel has a system of sensors, cameras and onboard antennas that enable fully remote subsea inspection operations, including the launch and recovery of submarine vehicles (WROV) capable of diving up to 2000 meters deep. According to the shipyard, this number represents a “major technological breakthrough, significantly increasing operational capabilities in maintenance and inspection tasks while offering high-performance during offshore missions. Additionally, the vessel is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by more than 90% compared to conventional vessels.”
