Fifty companies from Galician industry visit SMM Hamburg 2024 led by Xunta (Regional Government)

In this 31st edition of the biennial event, which Navalia has attended as a visitor, 2,200 exhibitors from 67 countries are participating

Over fifty companies from Galician industry, including Navalia, have visited the SMM Hamburg 2024 maritime trade fair with the support of Xunta de Galicia (Regional Government), joined with the Minister of Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, and ASIME representatives, the Galician Maritime Cluster (ACLUNAGA) and Vigo’s Chamber of Commerce.

This is a biennial event in its 31st edition which is the most important maritime sector trade fair worldwide, both in the construction of components and in machinery and technology. Hence the importance of presence of the Galician sector, which has a significant weight in the maritime industry, specifically in shipyards.

The regional minister of Economy, María Jesús Lorenzana, highlights the great opportunity for Galician companies to be able to participate in a space with more than 2,200 exhibitors from 67 countries. It should be noted that the sector in Galicia is in good health.

Specifically, the Galician community increased the number of companies in the shipbuilding sector by 2.5 percent, a sector currently employing around 60,000 people. -Shipbuilding industry and its associated technologies are registering increases, recovering 2018 levels.

The latest "Annual Report of the Galician Metal Sector" prepared by ASIME states that in 2023, the metal sector in Galicia and its associated technologies achieved an increase of 2.5% in employment and a 16% turnover. ASIME highlights these figures show the shipbuilding industry stability in the community, motivated by the leadership of Armón Shipyard in the facilities of the former Barreras, and by the opportunity presented by the F110 frigates or the good moment of other shipyards such as Nodosa or Freire Shipyard.

The Galician delegation was made up to a total of 54 companies, which represent 37% of the Spanish presence at the trade fair. 24 of these companies have their own stand, as well as the Association of Metal Industries and Associated Technologies of Galicia (ASIME) and the Galician Naval Cluster Association (ACLUNAGA).
