Bermeo Port Digitalizes Its Berths with 137 Smart Pedestals

The installation, carried out entirely by Marconn, enables water and electricity to be managed from a mobile phone or via an RFID reader using a card or key fob, and provides individual real-time monitoring of consumption.

One hundred and thirty-seven new pedestals on the pontoons. Two weeks of construction work. And a system that is already operational. The Port of Bermeo, managed by Euskadiko Kirol Portuak (EKP), has completed the full renovation of its utility supply points with Marconn’s Compact Premium Urban units, combining digitalization, sustainability, and a direct improvement in service.

Faster Access, More Precise Control
Each pedestal offers two access methods: an RFID reader that recognizes a card or key fob, or a mobile application. In both cases, the user’s identification is linked to the activated supply point, so the software automatically records electricity and water consumption for each berth individually.

“Real-time monitoring completely changes the way we manage infrastructure,” explains an EKP representative. “Previously, we had a global overview; now we can detect anomalies berth by berth and provide fully transparent billing.”

Sustainability as a Requirement, Not an Argument
The units are manufactured using recycled polyethylene and compostable materials, incorporating circular economy principles from the design stage. The materials must withstand the harsh marine environment — salinity, constant humidity, and impacts — without losing performance. The pedestals are certified IP66 and IK10, ensuring full protection against dust and high-pressure water jets, as well as high impact resistance.

The use of recycled materials demonstrates that it is possible to reduce the consumption of virgin raw materials without compromising the performance required in high-demand environments. Their durability has already been proven in applications such as kayaks, buoys, and floating pontoons, confirming their suitability for the most demanding port environments.

Marconn Expands Its Network, Port by Port
For Marconn, ports such as Bermeo represent another step in its national expansion, adding to a portfolio that already includes marinas and shipyards across Spain and Europe
