Armon is finalizing the launch of the third fast ferry building in Gijón for Baleària
The 123-meter vessel follows in the footsteps of its sister ships, the Eleanor Roosevelt (2021) and Margarita Salas (2023)
Grupo Armón is finalizing the launch of the third LNG-powered fast ferry it is building for the shipping company Baleària at its Gijón facilities. The launch will take place on September 19, according to the shipowner. The vessel, expected to be operational in 2026, will strengthen Baleària's eco-efficient fleet, joining its sister ships, the Eleanor Roosevelt (2021) and Margarita Salas (2023).
The ship, which will bear the name "Mercedes Pinto" in homage to the legacy of the 20th-century Tenerife writer and poet, is 123 meters long and has capacity for 1,200 passengers and 425 vehicles. It will maintain the same innovative and comfortable approach as its predecessors.
This will be Baleària's twelfth ship with dual natural gas engines, a technology also designed to run on 100% biomethane or with green hydrogen blends of up to 25%, CO₂-neutral renewable energies "that represent the future of maritime propulsion," explains the shipowner.
Baleària has also commissioned Armón Gijón to build two more new fast ferries, this time 100% electric.
