Freire Shipyard signs the construction of a "green ship" with sail and batteries for Greenpeace
It will be a 75-metre long ship and its delivery is scheduled for 2027. The Vigo shipyard confirms the order advanced by Faro de Vigo during the Navalia exhibition
The Vigo shipyard Freire Shipyard has just confirmed the contract advanced by Faro de Vigo during Navalia 2024 for the construction of a new ship. It is a 75-metre "ecological vessel" for Greenpeace that "will be revolutionary". Specifically, it is a sailing vessel scheduled for delivery in 2027. However, the environmental organisation announces that "now begins the task of collecting donations to finance it".
Construcciones Navales Paulino Freire confirmed during the celebration of Navalia that the shipyard was about to put into effect a new contract for a unit that would exceed 70 metres in length, although without giving more details about the type or the possible owner.
The shipyard now shares Greenpeace's communication, adding that the order "is now official" and comes "after months of hard teamwork". "We are very proud to have been awarded this incredible project," says Freire on social media.
According to the environmental organisation, the vessel "has been designed to be a pioneer in sustainable technology" and in addition to being used for the interests of the shipowner, it will serve to "demonstrate that long-distance sea voyages can be made using different renewable energy sources".
