Freire finishes the oceanographic vessel for USA

It is the first research vessel built in Europe destined to operate in US waters

The oceanographic vessel for the United States being built by Vigo Freire shipyard is in its final phase, a few months after its delivery to the shipowner, Monterrey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) in California.

The ship returned to water these days to resume sea trials, after being stranded in the dry dock. 'David Packard', named after the founder of MBARI, will be the first research vessel built in Europe destined to operate in the United States of America waters. It has a length of 49.9 meters and stands out for its capacity for the deployment and operation of equipment, such as underwater ROV vehicles to analyze the deep sea.

The shipyard is repairing the tuna seiner “Montelape” and has several construction contracts in force, including a support and maintenance vessel for the United Kingdom and an oceanographic vessel for France.
