70 MI new IEO to be build by Armón vigo

They will manufacture an 85-meter-long boat that will be an international reference in the niche of scientific vessels

The IEO (Spanish Oceanographic Institute) made official the award of the construction of the new oceanographic to Armón Vigo. A €69.6 Mi offer and a proposal for an 84.3 m-Length ship made the shipyard from Vigo obtain the order. The State work page informed of the award last week, although the official signature is still pending. However, the order for Armón Vigo was already taken for granted when they overtake the technical assessment of Freire Shipyard, other Vigo’s shipyard specialized in the construction of this type of scientific ships.

Armón Vigo Technical Assessment was 23.1 points out of the 40 established in the specifications, which was 2.5 points ahead of Freire. Construcciones Navales Paulino Freire's proposal was for a 78.8-meter-long by 18-meter beam. It would be the third largest oceanographic they would build after RRS Discovery and BAP Carrasco.

The oceanographic is added up to Armón's order book, which is currently completing a fishing vessel construction for Iceland (for Nesfiskur), another for Argentina (Empesur) and an oceanographic for Ireland (Tom Crean).
