Orders of high-end fishing boats re-launch Galician naval

The strong demand for fish, increasingly expensive, drives the renewal of fleets from around the world to the Galician shipyards

The consumption of fish per capita in the world is already 20 kilos per person and year, and continues to grow. These are data from the FAO (United Nations Organization for Agriculture and Food), which also notes an unstoppable rise in prices. The fishing sector is booming in the world. The shipbuilders need new boats to compete, and that explains why fishing vessels have become the main business niche of the Galician shipyards now. 18 of the 30 ships that are in portfolio (signed or under construction) are fishing or marine research vessels.

Few naval industries in the world such as Galician have the experience and knowledge acquired for decades building the most leading ships: trawlers, tuna vessels, freezers ... That is why it is not surprising that the big shipbuilders of countries such as Argentina, Greenland, Namibia or Russia, go to the shipyards of Galicia to order the renewal of their fleets.
