Viana makes Vulcano responsible for 4 steel blocks like an «injection of optimism»
The CEO of Vulcano, José Luis Méndez, describes as an «injection of optimism» the order of the Portuguese firm Estaleiros de Viana to build four steel blocks for one of their vessels, being aware that they won’t be able to meet the deadlines if they don’t subcontract part of the work.
Although the mentioned blocks scarcely guarantee workload for a couple of months – «we will start on Monday» - and for no more than a score of people, what makes the assignment so attractive is the fact that it opens the door to a collaboration that could be very fruitful for Teis’ factory, since the company that manages the facilities of Estaleiros de Viana is also the shipowner of the boats that plough through Duero river.
In the case of broadening this collaboration, the shipyard from Vigo would have an extra oxygen supply at a particularly sensitive time, considering that they haven’t added new orders to their books after the ferry’s operation with Transmediterránea in May last year and time is running out, since they intend to deliver the vessel at the end of April. It is also from then on when the changes in the top management will be materialized. In order to boost their marketing offensive, Vulcano hired this year a woman with wide experience in the sector for that department. Some sources from the company are convinced that the bearing fruits of this bet will be visible soon, as they have some negotiations in a «very advanced» stage, although they also recognize «this is a sector where you can’t take anything for granted until the financing is signed».
