The order for ferries and catamarans ensures a rise in contracts this year.

The downward trend in oil prices and expectations that this situation will continue in the future have been affecting the shipbuilding for months and in particular the Galician shipyards specialised in support vessels for extraction activities on high waters.

With the low price of Brent barrel – yesterday it dropped below $ 28 in anticipation of the Iranian oil return to market, when it was traded back above 100 $ a year and a half ago- there has not been any orders for vessels in the oil industry except the two flotels to be delivered this year to Pemex by Navantia and Barreras. However, for the first time since the economic crisis, the collapse in the price of fuel is rebounding the demand for passenger vessels worldwide. In this turbulent situation, Galician private shipyards, specialised in the building of ferries and catamarans, are successfully positioning to gain the confidence of shipping companies for which they have been a point of reference for decades, such as Arms, Balearia, Transmediterránea Suardíaz or the Basque; but also for the foreign ones.
