“Karoline”, the world's first fishing vessel entirely electric
The Norwegian fishing vessel “Karoline” will enter service in Norwegian waters in the next few weeks. It is a small fishing boat of 31.10 m long by a 4,20 beam where the future of the industry lies. This is because of its electric propelling system which turns one of the first initiatives of its kind to become a reality.
The ship is fitted with a 200KWh battery pack, a propelling electric engine and an energy generator which allows feeding the engine without any limitations during navigation. That gives an advantage over traditional ships.
Once more, Norway is a step ahead on the fishing technology development which will lead the development of this industry during the next few years. The boat allows the reduction of 100% of CO2 emissions. Besides, it allows to save 70% on energy use compared to a similar boat with a diesel engine.
