The Galician Industry Department will Invest 500.000€ on Naval Sector Training in 2008

The Board of Directors of Navalia, the II International Shipbuilding and Maritime Industry Exhibition of Vigo has a meeting with Helena Veiguela The general director of Industrial Promotion and the Society of Information, Helena Veiguela, presided this morning a meeting and lunch that took place to mark the second meeting of the Executive Committee of the naval sector show, in representation of the Galician Minister of Innovation and Industry, Fernando X. Blanco. Veiguela confirmed that the Galician Innovation and Industry Department supports the II International Shipbuilding and Maritime Industry Exhibition, Navalia 2008; as “it would be an international encounter point of the current and future technological advances, and it wishes to be an event of international relevance, a showcase for the good performance of our shipbuilding industry”. She also added that the lack of qualified labour is improving with a training plan that, in the following weeks, will be presented. This plan, which would be subsidized by the European Social Fund and the Innovation and Industry Department, and which was ordered by the Industrial Promotion and of Information Society General Office, was designed by Aclunaga in collaboration with Forga and Formega, and has the goal of training qualified workers for the naval sector. The Department will invest in this plan 500.000 euros in 2008. On the other hand, the General Director highlighted the importance of the Galician naval sector: “The growth on the exports on the last two years was 86%, while in the State was 13% during the same period”. Veigela also underlined that “currently we have 10.000 workers registered in the sector, which means 12,3% more than in 2006”.
The president and the director of Navalia, José Francisco González and Javier Arnau; the president of Aclunaga, José Domínguez; the director of the Vigo Port Authority, Luís Lara; the director of the Free Zone Consortium, Francisco López; the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Vigo, José García; a representative of ASIME, Javier Martínez; and the area director of Commerce and of the ICEX, Javier Tena, attended the meeting, in addition to other people that holds important positions in the shipbuilding sector.
Navalia 2008 will take place from the 20th to the 22nd of May of 2008, it will be the second edition ant the attendance of 15.000 professional visitors is expected.
