Almudena López del Pozo, CEO of Pymar, attended the Executive Committee meeting as a special guest ahead of the trade fair

The executive believes Spain is in a position to consolidate and strengthen its European leadership in the types of vessels most relevant to strategic autonomy.

The Executive Committee meeting held ahead of the trade fair featured the participation of Almudena López del Pozo, Chief Executive Officer of Pymar, a key organization in supporting and financing the Spanish shipbuilding industry. During her address, she reflected on the transformation experienced by the Spanish shipbuilding industry in recent years, highlighting several key factors: the commitment to innovation by Spanish private shipyards, the efficient management of financing instruments, and the coordinated efforts between public and private stakeholders. According to López del Pozo, these elements explain the excellent momentum currently enjoyed by Spanish shipbuilding.

The CEO also emphasized the importance of the strategic recognition granted at the European level to the shipbuilding and maritime industries, materialized through the approval of the European Maritime Strategy by the European Commission. She stated that Spain is well positioned to consolidate and strengthen its European leadership in the types of vessels most relevant to strategic autonomy, adding that “Spanish shipyards are prepared to face these challenges. We have the capabilities, the experience, and the human talent. We have a public-private collaboration model that works. And we have a sector that has demonstrated, time and again, its capacity to adapt and overcome challenges.”

Referring to the sector’s export capacity, López del Pozo concluded her speech with the following words: “I am convinced the tenth edition of Navalia will reflect how, from Galicia’s yards and Spain’s yards, we are building for Europe and for the world.”
