Navalia 2016 welcomes the signing of the contract between Gondán shipyards and shipping Nabia for the construction of a passenger ship

The second day of the International Shipbuilding in Vigo could not have a better start for the sector. Early in the morning, the Gondán shipyard stand was the stage of signing the contract with the Nabia shipping company for the construction of a catamaran designed to passenger traffic in the Ria de Vigo.
The event was attended by the manager of the group Acuna, Mrs. Maria Jesus Otero and Alvaro Platero, Chairman of Astilleros Gondán, along with Mr. Ceferino Ron, director of the company´s factory. The ceremony was also attended, as guests of honor, the Mayor of Vigo, Mr. Abel Caballero and the President of the Provincial Council of Pontevedra, Mrs. Carmela Silva. This vessel, which is entirely built in polyester reinforced with fiberglass, will have capacity to carry 250 passengers at a cruising speed of 15 knots and will be able to reach a top speed of 20 knots. Its range will be 750 miles and its dimensions will be 24 meters long and 8 meters wide.
The new catamaran has been designed by Insenaval from Vigo and presents as the main novelty the use of a modern optimized hull to reduce feelings of dizziness, thanks to a special system of lateral ducts designed to evacuate water from the waves during navigation, thus reducing vertical accelerations. The price of the transaction is around half million euros. The Chairman of Acuña group justified the need to expand its fleet given the increase in passenger demand for the National Park of the Atlantic Islands, which has grown 20%
