Ship owners and shipyards are looking for founds for seven new vessels

The naval and fishing Galician industry reached an agreement yesterday in Vigo to renew trawlers, with the construction of seven vessels valued each one between 15 and 20 millions Euros The decision is made, ship-owners (Community Companies in Joint Ventures Association, Acemix) and shipyards (Galician Naval Cluster Association, Aclunaga) have been working for months in the technical development of the archetypes of a new range of refrigerated trawlers that will substitute vessels built in the 60's and 80's that fish in the Malvinas, Argentina, Senegal and Namibia fishing grounds.

Now the most difficult thing is to achieve the Financing. This industrial project for new fishing technologies awarded 24 megawatts in the Galician wind energy tender. Their promoters are ready to carry it out, and in their mission count on the support of the Economy and Industry Regional Ministry that has open a double front looking for subsidiaries. On one hand, through the Development Founds of the EU; and on the other hand asking to the guarantees society Pymar, that has a reserve of 12 millions Euros from the Rural and Marine Environment Ministry for the fleet renewal.

The order, that can reach 140 millions Euros, will be distributed between four Galician shipyards: Construcciones Navales Freire, from Vigo, Astilleros Armón, with offices in Vigo and Burela; Nodosa, from Pontevedra and Astilleros José Valiña from A Coruña.

The archetypes construction would begin in 2012, according the periods advanced yesterday in Vigo by the Economy and Industry Regional Minister, Javier Guerra. "The 18th of this month there will be a meeting with the Naval Sector Management and the Pymar society to explain the project, because they are in theory the financial backer of the sector".

The president of Acemix, Alberto Freire, explained also that there are several national companies interested in join to the 7 Galician ship-owners involved in the renewal of the trawlers for third countries. (Source: www.aclunaga.es)
