Murueta shipyards to build a new 82-meter freezer trawler for Royal Greenland

It is the fifth fishing vessel the shipyard undertakes for the Greenlandic shipowner

Murueta Shipyards will build a new freezer trawler for the Greenlandic shipowner Royal Greenland, a company belonging to Greenland Government. The ship will have the yard number C-329, will be the fifth unit built for the same shipowner group and will have a construction period of 28 months, as reported by Pymar. The fishing vessel will be a shrimp freezer trawler with a high degree of sustainability, which will significantly contribute to reducing environmental footprint and which will have a higher personnel safety level and comfort on board than the usual standard.

The 82.30 m-long vessel is designed for fully automated processing and product freezing. It has a highly sustainable propulsion system, designed to achieve a reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. It also has an innovative energy recovery system that saves fuel, as well as low energy consumption LED lighting. In the processing plant, a further step has been taken in automation and a fully robotic and versatile size segregation and palletizing system has been implemented, a pioneer in this type of vessel.

Its operational area will be eastern and western Greenland, Labrador coast, Iceland and the north-eastern Arctic, so special attention has been paid in its design to its manoeuvrability in icy waters. The ship, whose project has been done by the Norwegian Skipsteknisk technical office, has been designed to guarantee high comfort and safety for its crew, with capacity for 30 people.

FINANCING
To achieve this contract, Astilleros de Murueta has obtained financing and guarantees from ICO, Banco Sabadell, EBN, Cesce, and Pymar, and adviced by Hogan Lovells law firm. Pymar's participation in the operation has been materialized by the granting of guarantees through the Maritim Guarantee Fund, an instrument in which the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism and Basque Country regional Government, among others, participate.

Apart from that, Astilleros de Murueta has also obtained financing from the recapitalization of companies affected by Covid-19 Fund, created by Royal Decree-Law 5/2021, of March 12, on extraordinary measures to support business solvency in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, managed by Cofides. Astilleros de Murueta currently has six contracts in force.
