Navantia delivers the first of two AOR type ships to the Australian Navy

The second unit is being completed at the Ferrol shipyard.
Navantia has delivered to the Royal Australian Navy the first of the two ships of the AOR (Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment) type, the 'HMAS Supply', which the Spanish public naval company has built in its facilities in Ferrol, where at the moment the second unit remains in the process of completion.
In a statement, the new president of Navantia, Ricardo Domínguez, said that the entry into service of the vessel "marks a significant milestone for all those who have been involved". "Despite the many challenges, including the covid-19 pandemic, the Australian Government, Navantia, Navantia Australia and the Spanish and Australian industry have worked collectively and collaboratively to make the 'HMAS Supply' a reality," he said.
This ship was built at the Ferrol shipyard and completed at the Garden Island Naval Base in Western Australia at the end of 2020. The Australian Ministry of Defence's Sustainment Programme Management office, together with Navantia Australia, will work together in the maintenance of the ships through an advanced asset management system that ensures the capabilities of the AOS during the operational phase.
