Just one year to dream on board

  • Sector news

No longer than a year the naval treasure of Vigo -it is the most expensive private building closed in Spain- will plough the Caribbean seas from Miami to Barbados.

The insignia boat of Vigo’s naval sector has started the count down for its baptism. Azora, the Ultra-Premium cruise Hijos de J. Barreras shipyard from Vigo is building for the hotel chain The Ritz-Carlton, will be sailing with its first passengers on board on the paradisiacal waters of Caribe in just one year. The imponent vessel that now rests on the shipyards’ quay will take its exclusive clients from Fort Lauderdale (Miami) in a ten-night route up to Bridgetown (Barbados capital) from the 5th of February 2020. This will happen after the NFL (National Football League) finals, we mean, the Super Bowl, one of the world most important sport event that will take place in Miami just three days before. Pure luxury for the opening trip of the most expensive private naval construction in Spain up to now.

The 190m Length valued in €250 Million is in the armoury phase at the Vigo’s dockyard after launching last October. Even when the delivery is planned by the end of this year, the USA chain have been selling tickets for months both for the opening trip and for the next ones they have planned (among them, one by European waters that will have a 40-hours-stop in Vigo). Nevertheless, the company informed just yesterday that there are still some tickets available for the Caribbean journey, which will stop at Samaná and Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), San Juan and Vieques Island (Puerto Rico), Charlestown (San Cristobal and Nieves), Terre-de-Haut (Guadalupe), Fort-de-France (Martinica) and, finally, Bridgetown.

Each suite price (it will have only Premium cabins for 298 passenger) goes from €8,497 up to more than €15,300 and, from Ritz, they look for offering unique experiences on their stops, as for example horses, bikes or kayak routes, journeys to see whales or activities related to history, culture and gastronomy of each island and city.

Luxury with a stamp of Vigo

The boat that Barreras is building is the first one on the Ultra-Premium range. In order to get it done, an endless number of auxiliary companies co-operates, as it is the case of Navaliber and Martínez Otero as passengers cabin fitters or Regenasa for the cabin crew. Together with them is also, for example, Nauteka, company in charge of manufacturing and install 2,500 sqm. of Teka deck.

The shipyard is now looking after closing the order of two more cruises for Ritz, twins of this one. The shipyard President, Mr. García Costas, set this month to settle on the important contract.
