Ibercisa and Armón use a Simulator to design the two anchor handling vessels machinery

  • Sector news
The Ansys software allow to reduce periods of develop of the machines that will be used for the oil platforms anchorage The naval auxiliary company from Vigo Ibercisa has used simulation software for the deck machinery of the anchor handling vessels that Armon is building in its Vigo shipyard for the Holland Company Heerema Marine Contractors. This informative programme, by Ansys, had allowed the company from Vigo to save a 20% in the design of the machines that these vessels will use for the anchorage of oil platforms. It is heavy machinery of great dimensions as well as reduces the production period from 20 to 12 months.
"Without this software we could not carry on the project, because the structural calculations could not be done through conventional methods, that's why the ship owner considers it a contractual requirement", explains Alfredo Andreu, Technical Manager of Ibercisa. "It has involved a 20% costs save because it avoid building prototypes. Also it means a smaller delivery time of the final product, almost 6 months" he includes.
The main challenge in this case was how to analyze different load types for the same project geometry and to access simultaneously to them, to interpret and compare results. The deck machines that will be used in these vessels are such as big than Ibercisa plans to build them in the Repair area of the Port of Vigo to make their transportation to the vessels easier. These machines will allow the vessels of the Dutch ship-owner to anchor oil platforms. The anchor handling vessels are more than 70 meters long, and its contract begun last January.
