Spanish shipyard builds the first ecological vessel
The company Ronáutica Yacht & Renovables has built a ship propel by renewable energy. The ECO 340 has an electric motor which works with battery and three generators. The batteries are supported by the wind, the solar and the oil generator. The last one would be used only in emergencies. Furthermore the ship can refill the batteries at the harbour.
The RO 340 ECO is the first sail boat propel by an electric motor which works basically with renewable energies. The ship had been successfully presented in the Naval Exhibition of Barcelona. Hundreds of schoolchild had visited the vessel in order to learn how it works.
The craft, which is being built in the shipyard that the company has in Tui ( Pontevedra), is developed by the Ronáutica R+D department that achieve a high technological ship that cause the lowest possible aggression to the environment. It seems externally like a similar boat in terms of seaworthiness, but it works with renewable energies which reduces the consumption and the maintenance costs. The ship is more safety because the new electric motor can stop immediately in case of man overboard.
