The Galician government receive this year 151 applications for break up fishing ships.

The Regional Fishing Ministry confirms that 151 vessels of the Galician fishing fleet have asked for incentives for break up or for the definitively stop. There will be the first subsidies that will be charged against the European Fund of Fishing 2008 – 2013, which is the substitute of the previous IFOP. The Regional Fishing Ministry has this year a credit of more than fourteen million euro.

In order to get the granting of these subsidies, the government demands to the ships to be on active service, to have at least 10 years of seniority, to be up to date with the fiscal payments and to be included in national plans of dismantle or in recovery plans of certain resorts such as hake form north and south, crawfish or fletan.
Furthermore they must confirm an activity of at least 90 days of fishing in every two previous periods of twelve months before they ask for the subsidies.
The amount of the incentive are 11.500 euro for each GT (tonnage) plus a fixed amount of 2.600 euro for the ships of less than 100 GTs, and 1.250 euro per GT plus a fixed amount of 926.000 euro for ships of more than 500 GTs (Source: Faro de Vigo).
