The Automobiles Traffic through the Vigo Port Almost Reaches the one of Barcelona
The Vigo port is close to reach the automobiles traffic leadership superseding the Barcelona port. During the first semester of this year, less than 5.000 units in favour of the Catalan terminal separate it from the movement registered in Bouzas. The distance can be shorten even more; while the Vigo facilities registered an increased 35% on automobiles traffic its main competitor only grew 5,5%.
During the first semester Vigo moved 380.000 automobiles and, on this same semester, Barcelona registered a traffic of 385.566 vehicles. These results are a direct reflection of the upward tendency registered on the last years. According to the data from the Vigo Port Authority, in 2006, the Bouzas facilities already reached the second position, after Barcelona, in the automobiles traffic, national ranking, with a total of 416.171 vehicles, including cars destined to both foreign trade and national trade too.
The Vigo Port Authority reminds that these results mean a growth of 15,97% compared to the volume reached in 2005, and that the official results forecasted for the end of this year estimate an increase of 14% compared to 2006; about 475.000 units will transit through the Vigo Port facilities.
The companies responsible for the movement of vehicles through the Vigo Port are the shipping lines, UECC, Acciona Trasmediterránea, and Kline, although other companies such us Suardíaz, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, N.Y.K, Vallenius, and Wilhelmsen Lines AB also play an important role on this movement.
These shipping companies are in charge of transporting the automobiles of the brands, Citroën, Peugeot, Toyota, BMW, Audi, Renault, Isuzu, Ford, Opel, Volkswagen, Mini, and Scania.
Last semester the higher increases on the number of vehicles were registered on Citroën, Isuzu, BMW, and Toyota.
The core of the automobile traffic in the Port of Vigo that takes place in the Bouzas Ferry Terminal, which has available a 315.000 square meter surface area, allocated to transport vehicles that, in addition to automobiles, also include trailers.
