Mexico is Interested on Training its Shipbuilding Workers in Galicia
The Spanish and Mexican Governments signed a collaboration treaty between both countries Merchant Navy The Mexican Government will propose training its shipbuilding workers in Galicia, strategy that is within the collaboration framework aim to be established with Spanish naval sector companies. The Calderón Executive interest in establishing new business lines with Spain in the shipbuilding sector was confirmed in Vigo by the number two of the executive, Juan Camilo Mouriño, who underlined the intention of ordering the manufacture of fishing, merchant and military vessels in Galicia; in return, private companies of the Community will invest on his country and help to regenerate the industrial network, which accumulates years of backwardness.
The Mexican Merchant Marine general director, José Tomás Lozano, declared to La Voz that a collaboration protocol with the Spanish homologue institution already exists. In this agreement also alludes to building two training ships. Mexico plans to order one of these ships shortly. Yesterday, the general director of the Merchant Marine Staff Teaching-and-Training Trusteeship, the engineer Gil Ugaldo Ramírez, admitted that a shipyard from Avilés has being contacted for a possible order. “We are studying the building method -he said-. It will be a multipurpose ship, which will operate in the Campeche area and, at the same time, be a training school. It is not definitive yet, we are working on the project.”
The person responsible for the Mexican Merchant Marine, Lozano y Pardiñas, underlined that the staff of the Galician shipyards have a wide experience and are very qualified. His Executive proposal is “to train the Mexican people there in Spain and after bring them back to Mexico”
Visit from Touriño
The head of the President Office, Juan Camilo Mouriño, son of Carlos Mouriño, president of soccer team Celta de Vigo, informed that he is preparing an official visit of Emilio Pérez Touriño to Mexico before the end of the year. During this trip, the President of the Autonomous Government will travel along with a group of businessman, from the naval, fishing, and canning sectors, to study business lines interesting for both sides.
