Freire Shipyard Will Build 8 Container Ships and 5 Tugs Valued at 180 Million Euros
Freire Shipyard subcontracted 280 workers to meet their activity until the end of 2008 The Spanish shipyard finalized contracts for building eight container ships and five tugs valued at 180 million euros with two ship owners that, for the first time, made orders to Freire that will create activity until 2008.
Freire, which has a permanent staff of 95 people, subcontracted 280 workers from auxiliary companies from the naval sector to meet the future activity.
The construction of the eight container ships was ordered by an Anglo-Dutch company, Carisbrooks Shipping, which has its main office in White Island and owns an important ship fleet spread worldwide.
The first six ships to be built at the Spanish shipyard will be 90 meters long with a 14,50 meters beam, and a 6,30 meters and 3.000 GT draft. The last two will be 100 meters long and a 3.380 GT draft.
The 8 container ships, will have a double function like granaries, cost 85 million euros. The contact will be over at the end of 2008 handing over a vessel every three months.
With regard to the 5 tugs, which cost 95 million euros, were ordered by the French shipowner Société Remorquagé Lous Thomas. The first one of the five will be handed over the 15th of next month and will be 25 meters long with a 9,50 meters beam. The other four will be 70 meters long with a 15,50 meters beam and the first one will be handed over at the end of this year.
