Navantia delivers the S-81 submersible to the Spanish Navy, awaiting the arrival of its final propulsion system and land attack missiles to replace the planned Harpoon
This Thursday, the Navy receives the S-81 Isaac Peral submarine from Navantia in Cartagena (Murcia), in an event attended by the Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles.
Isaac Peral carried out its last navigation test in Cartagena waters two weeks ago. She remained submerged and subsequently sailed out to sea during different tests.
S-80 Program
State-of-the-art S-80 conventional oceanic submarine program means the Spanish Navy will be among the best equipped navies in the world in terms of underwater weapons, and to Navantia will mean to be among the ten countries capable of designing and building conventional submarines worldwide.
This is one of the most complex technological projects carried out in Spain and involves highly specialized engineering work, since the construction of submarines implies having a military naval industry with the highest technical qualifications.
Likewise, the program brings with it a great evolution of the Spanish industrial and technological defence fabric, which is about to enter the select group of countries capable of building submarines. With an industrial tractor effect in the Cartagena region, the program contributes annually to nearly 2,000 direct and subsidiary industry jobs and up to 7,000 quality jobs in the region.
