Pescanova pre-selects two shipyards for the construction of their seven vessels

Armón and Vulcano are the best positioned – Foresees an increase of 5% in their sales. Pescanova will announce in “two weeks” where they are going to build the seven fishing vessels that are going to work in Namibia and Mozambique and on which they will invest 42,5 million euros.

“They are going to be one or two” shipyards, as advanced by the multinational company’s managing director, Ignacio González, in an appearance in Valencia that had the aim to value the first year of compliance of “Todos a una” strategic plan. Armón and Vulcano, according to some sources from the sector, are in the best position to take over the contract. “Armón is the one who asked the most for the deck equipment”, as the same sources stated, and has already built various shrimp trawls for the fishing enterprise to send to Mozambique. They are little vessels, of around 30 metres in length. The ones to be sent for Namibia are 50 metres trawlers, valued in 10 million euros each. This is the segment in which Vulcano wins, although none of them has received a formal communication from the fish

This is the segment in which Vulcano wins, although none of them has received a formal communication from the fishing company of Chapela. The last time Pescanova ordered a trawler was in 1987, as advanced FARO. The Sil, built by Construcciones Navales Santodomingo (known today as Armón Vigo), is now property of Frigoríficos del Morrazo. “We would like it to be a Spanish shipyard, specially from Galicia. It would be important for the brand as a declaration of intent to invest in Galicia”, said the CEO about the assignment.

For the rest, González predicted an increase of between 5-7% in invoicing for the ongoing exercise and, above all, a breakeven situation (produced when the company reaches a profitability threshold because their income covers the fixed costs). “The brand, despite all it has suffered, resists the onslaught and is a prized brand for the consumer”, highlighted the manager in reference to the tumultuous period lived after their entrance in state of insolvency in 2013. In his opinion, the results obtained in 2016 and so far this year show that the problem of the company wasn’t about a pattern, and the extensive reliance showed by the banks that control their shareholding - the so-called G7 – are also a proof of that.
