Montenegro Shipyard reappears


The factory situated at Ríos, and which has passed a creditor’s meeting, is on plain activity within the naval reparation and with the last construction of a “pincheiro”.

Astilleros y Varaderos Montenegro has overcome the crisis with honors.  The factory from the down street to Ríos (Teis -Vigo), that by the beginning of 2010 was into a creditor’s meeting due to an outstanding payment of the extinct MCies Shipyard, to whom hired part of their slipways, has finally surpass that period, (it is free of debts), is now a reference on the bay at repairing and transforming vessels up to 30 meters length, with 35 aground last year, and the last come back to the naval construction with a “pincheiro” (fishing boat) for a French shipbuilder.   

With three slipways and a dock for assembling, the company directed by Fernando Armada from Vigo, has got capacity to work up to in nine vessels at the same time, just if the lengths do not exceed 30 meters. They employ an average of 70 people, including own staff (13 workers) and personnel from the auxiliary industry. Mr. Armada enter in the capital of the shipyard during the process of creditor’s meeting procedure as an own bid, and in March 2016 the company concluded the creditor’s agreement.

Within last years, invoicing got up to a 20% annual growth and in 2016 raised up to €2,3 Million, with a profit of €250.000. They are specialist at reparation and naval transformation; in fact, they have already done several enlargements of fishing boats and it has more in project. They are closed to come back to the segment of naval construction by building a fishing boat (pincheiro) for a French ship-owner, according to Mr. Armada.

More than a hundred boats were built at its slipways during 77 years of company life (it was built in 1940), boats from 18 to 70-meter-long, mostly fishing boats (longliners as “Dadimar” or the “New Ramses” and trawlers like “El Monte Meixueiro” and the “Villa de Nores”, and also oceanographics and for marine investigation (“Vizconde de Eza”, “Enma Bardán”, “Miguel Oliver”) and stain yachts (“Centium” and “Samurai One”) from the period shared with MCíes.
